Social Justice and Community Impact

Recent MPUC projects in partnership with community

MPUC is honored to partner with Hallie Q. Brown Community Center. In December, MPUC families donated over 175 gifts to families at Hallie Q. Brown. After all the shopping and wrapping was complete, we had an excess of $1,775.72. This money was allocated to Hallie Q. Brown for them to use however they need.

Why this matters right now: Our neighbors are navigating an incredibly difficult season. As our community faces the weight of a traumatizing occupation, a reduction in federal financial supports, and rising costs of living, community staples like Hallie Q. Brown are seeing an unprecedented need for their services.

This "overflow" of support from MPUC provides:

  • Dignity for families in crisis

  • Care and commitment during this time of community trauma

  • Direct relief where it’s needed most

About Hallie Q. Brown Community Center: Since 1929, Hallie Q. Brown has served as an African American, nonprofit social service agency open to all. Operating in the Rondo neighborhood, they have been providing vital human services and empowerment programs to the St. Paul community for generations. By supporting their work, we are investing in a legacy of resilience and community-led care that has spanned nearly a century. Click here to learn more about their mission.

We strive to be antiracist

We welcome immigrants and refugees

With a long history of accompanying immigrants and refugees, we became a Sanctuary Church in 2017. Led by the Immigrant Welcoming Team, we support new Minnesotans in various ways as they transition toward independence.

We feed the hungry

Many people struggle every day to feed themselves and their families. Through partnerships with the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Loaves and Fishes, and Interfaith Action’s Department of Indian Work, we feed our neighbors and advocate for an end to hunger.

We protect the earth

Led by our Creation Justice Committee, we did a lot of work to reduce our church’s carbon footprint, educating the congregation about environmental stewardship and working for political solutions for the climate crisis. In 2022, we installed a solar array on our roof.
