Music at Macalester Plymouth United Church

Music is an essential part of worship and community at Macalester Plymouth United Church. Our church has a long and rich history and tradition of music worship. Our welcoming and supportive music program invites people of all ages and experience levels to share in the joy of making music together. Whether you are an experienced musician or simply curious to try something new, there is a place for you here. Come sing, play, learn, and connect with a community that believes everyone has something meaningful to contribute.

Chancel Choir

Our adult choir brings together voices of all ages and backgrounds to share a rich variety of music. From traditional hymns and classical anthems to contemporary worship and world music, the choir celebrates the many ways music can inspire faith, joy, and community. Chancel Choir meets Wednesday evenings (7 - 9 pm) September through May, and sings in our 10 am Sunday worship approximately three Sundays per month.


Chapel Choir

Our youth choir brings together young singers to explore a wide variety of music while growing in confidence, musicianship, and faith. Rehearsals include voice training, music theory, and music history, giving singers a well-rounded musical education alongside the joy of singing together.

Each rehearsal begins with a snack and time to socialize and connect with friends, creating a welcoming and encouraging community. Chapel Choir meets Wednesdays evenings (5:45-6:45 pm) September through May and sings in our 10 am Sunday worship approximately one Sunday per month.


Alleluia Choir


Jubilee Ringers

Our Alleluia Choir is a joyful and playful choir for children pre-kindergarten through grade three. Singers explore a wide variety of fun age-appropriate music while developing confidence, musical skills, and a love of singing through group singing and Orff instrument exploration.  Alleluia choir meets during our Sunday 10am worship, September through May.

The Jubilee Ringers is a fun and welcoming handbell ensemble for adults and youth–middle school ages and up. No prior musical or handbell experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

Ringers use music that engages musicians of all reading levels. Easy-to-read music and a supportive team create an encouraging environment where everyone can grow in their musical skills and make quality, joyful music. Jubilee Ringers rehearses Wednesday evenings (5:45-6:45 pm) and play several times, September through May, in our 10 am worship.


Lincoln Avenue Irregulars

The Lincoln Avenue Irregulars is a lively church band that brings together musicians with a wide range of instruments and musical backgrounds. Our core sound includes bass, piano, and drums, with additional instruments joining in—from trombone and guitar to accordion and beyond.

With an eclectic mix of sounds and jazz, pop, and folk styles, the Irregulars bring energy, creativity, and joy to worship. Whether you are an experienced musician or simply love making music with others, there is always room for another instrument in this jazzy mix. The Lincoln Avenue Irregulars play for our annual Mardi Gras worship service, the annual cabaret fundraiser, and in various services through the program year. Rehearsals are scheduled at the convenience of the participants.

Our music series is dedicated to making exceptional live music accessible to everyone.
