All are invited to learn about a unique opportunity before us to “live into God’s promise” and “move beyond words and to take action” as we transition more actively to counter racism and honor the land and its peoples.
In 2011 MPUC received a financial windfall from the sale of mineral rights in North Dakota, given long ago as a bequest. With time we have learned about the harms caused by extractive industries to the earth and specifically to Indigenous peoples.
The Racial and Indigenous Justice Team believes we are called to reconsider the use of that $25,000 gain, equivalent to $35,000 in 2024. Last summer, Session directed the RIJ team to develop a proposal for using that gain as a “restorative action,” a faith-based reparation, and to inform and engage the congregation of this proposal.
Please join this discussion to consider this call to faith. If you cannot attend in person, you can attend via this Zoom link.
*’Restorative Actions’ is a grass roots voluntary initiative for churches, individuals, mid-councils, and agencies of the Presbyterian Church (USA) as well as other ecumenical partners and interested organizations, to take a leadership stance in opposition to racism and racial privilege.
