People of faith engage in peacemaking, not as peripheral activity, but as an integral part of the congregational life and mission. **
PeaceMakers is a small group that meets regularly and focuses on topics and projects dealing with peace and non-violence. It goes way beyond being anti-war. "Peace–shalom–is the wholeness and community in which human beings are meant to live." **
This involves us in many ways as we work towards social justice, equality, human rights and dignity, and ways to support the greater good for all in our community.
Our Mission is to call MPUC to faithful peacemaking by:
• Connecting people with peace activities in the greater community;
• Planning, hosting, cooperating in education, advocacy and actions;
• Providing leadership in peacemaking for our own church & our denominations;
• Reaching out to the community beyond MPUC.
We plan programs, discuss books & current events, share info with MPUC congregation, cooperate on projects, work for Greater Shalom, pray, donate to peace causes, sponsor a PeaceMaking Award for our youth, and occasionally have a Dessert Potluck. For more specific examples of our activities, see the Faith in Action section of this website. We are an offshoot of the Mission and Social Justice Committee.
Meetings: monthly (4th Tuesday) at 7pm. All are welcome.
Meetings are collegial, chocolate-equipped, and allow space for concerns re war & peace as well as planning programs & outreach.
