Education—thoughtful study of God’s scripture, our faith traditions, and its meaning in our lives—is a strong focus of our work at Macalester Plymouth. Our tradition of education is far from confined to kids, as adults participate in Lectionary study weekly along with lectures, seminars, and speakers for other adult education opportunities. |
Our Sunday School for elementary age children runs from the Sunday after Labor Day through the end of the academic year. We use a rotation model, where teachers present the similar material for a few weeks on a given topic to all of the grades in turn. Adult Shepherds are assigned to each class to look after their kids, really get to know them and their families, and assist the teachers. We teach from the Bible stories and from our faith traditions, where one rotation may focus on Joseph and his brothers and the next covers the work of Martin Luther. |
Through Adult Education at Macalester Plymouth we provide opportunities for reflection and spiritual growth as well as education about theology, mission work and social justice issues. On Sunday mornings the Lectionary group studies Biblical texts, and the Adult Ed. Forum addresses a variety of topics, from the history of nonviolent resistance to tsunami relief. Small groups meet occasionally at other times of the week, and have included The Bible as Literature, Parenting Adolescents, and our annual Women's Retreat. See upcoming events |
