The youth program is a spiritual community for 6th-12th graders. Programs are designed to encourage self-discovery, healthy relationships, global awareness, service, and spirituality. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have continued to meet weekly on Zoom or outdoors with masks and distancing as weather allows. Activities include art, games, discussions, service projects, movie nights, engagement around antiracism and other social issues, and involvement in the life of the church. All youth are welcome! To be added to the distribution list, contact Lauren Dickinson, Community Builder for Youth.
From September through May, junior high youth meet from 5-6:30 pm and senior high youth meet from 6-7:30 pm on Zoom for a wide variety of activities. Recent favorites include a Chopped competition, an interactive Christmas party, Pixar shorts, and a bad movie roast. We anticipate increasing our outdoor, masked, distanced activities when the weather allows.
This class prepares 8th and 9th graders to decide to become full members of the church. Details of the next confirmation class will be coming soon.
Our Whole Lives (OWL)
Our Whole Lives (OWL), is a comprehensive, faith-based sexuality education curriculum designed by the Unitarian Universalists and the United Church of Christ. This program helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips them with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior and health, and society and culture. All OWL programs are on hiatus during the pandemic by recommendation of the national organization, due to concerns around confidentiality in virtual settings. We hope to resume OWL programming in the 2021-22 program year.
The Senior High youth participate in a Mission Trip each year focused on service learning, justice education, and faith development. In 2019 the group traveled to Houston, TX. Read about the group’s recent Texas experience! The 2020 Mission Trip was canceled due to the pandemic. In 2021, an abbreviated trip went to Clearwater Forest to do trail work and help with camp upkeep.
The Junior High youth serve and learn locally each year in a half-week Justice Camp. The group selects a topic, volunteering at related organizations in the morning and going deeper in their learning in the afternoon.
