2018 Mission and Social Justice (MSJ) Donations Thus Far

Macalester Plymouth United Church empowers the Mission and Social Justice Committee with the duty and responsibility for distributing some $24,000 from the “general fund”, plus additional money from “designated funds” for ministries of mission and social justice. Thus far in 2018, MSJ has distributed approximately $18,000 of these funds in the following contributions:

FEEDING THE HUNGRY: $3,800

  • Hallie Q. Brown Food Shelf – $1,000
  • Help At Your Door – $300
  • Loaves and Fishes (Dorothy Day Center) -$750
  • Bread for the World (food policy advocacy) – $500
  • Share Foundation, Honduras – $500
  • Native American Food Shelf (Interfaith Action of St. Paul) – $750

SHELTERING THE HOMELESS: $2,750

  • Interfaith Builders (Habitat for Humanity) – $2,000
  • Doctors Without Borders (Emergency relief, Yemen) – $750

ACCOMPANYING REFUGEES AND IMMIGRANTS: $2,230

  • “RAICES” (legal aid, Texas-Mexico border) – $1,500
  • “Sembrando Poder” (Immigrant legal defense, Minnesota) – $500
  • Sanctuary (support to a partner Sanctuary congregation) – $230

GLOBAL MISSION PARTNERS: $6,000

  • East Timor (Tom and Monica Liddle, UCC) – $3,000
  • Malawi (Rochelle and Tyler Holm, Presb.) – $3,000

YOUTH IN MISSION: $1,000

  • MPUC Youth Mission Trips – $1,000

RACIAL JUSTICE: $625

  • MPUC team to leadership training event – $625

ECUMENICAL AND INTERFAITH PARTNERSHIPS IN MINNESOTA: $1,500

  • “Isaiah” (annual dues) – $1,000
  • Joint Religious Legislative Coalition – $500
