Bread for the World “Offering of Phone Calls”

Bread for the World Sunday will be June 17. We will be doing an “Offering of Phone Calls” to coincide with Bread For the World’s annual Day on the Hill in Washington, D.C. that week. Bread for the World is a faith-based organization of advocacy on behalf of hungry and impoverished persons in our country and the world.

During the Sunday service, you will receive a bulletin insert briefly explaining this year’s advocacy for nutritional support and anti-poverty programs. SNAP, school meals, and WIC programs are of special concern. We will supply phone numbers of your Senators and Representatives and brief telephone message scripts. Come to the Social Hall after worship where members of the Mission and Social Justice committee can assist you to make a call. Then congratulate Rachel and Don Christensen who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with us that Sunday.

You can learn more about these issues by reading Bread for the World’s online resources!

Can’t attend the “Offering of Phone Calls” on Sunday, the 17th?

Senator Amy Klobuchar: Thank you for your early co-sponsorship of the Global Food Security Act. I appreciate your ongoing support for nutrition support and anti-poverty programs.

Senator Tina Smith: Please sign on as a co-sponsor of the Global Food Security Act (S 2269). Also, please support funding of SNAP and WIC at 6.3 Billion dollars with no increased work requirements for recipients.

Rep. Betty McCollum: Thank you for your support of the Global Food Security Act and for your vigorous opposition to the Farm bill in the House. SNAP and WIC are important programs and I support your positions.

Rep. Tom Emmer: Thank you for your co-sponsorship of the Global Food Security Act (HR 5129). HOWEVER, I do not support your vote in favor of the Farm Bill, which would have resulted in fewer households being eligible for SNAP and WIC. These important programs need funding of at least $6.3 billion with no increased work requirements.

Rep. Keith Ellison: Thank you for your co- sponsorship of the Global Food Security Act (HR 5129) and for your vote against the Farm Bill. I support funding for SNAP and WIC of at least $6.3 billion and I support all anti-poverty programs.

Rep. Erik Paulsen: Thank you for your co-sponsorship of the Global Food Security Act (HR 51289). HOWEVER, I do not support your vote in favor of the Farm Bill, which would have resulted in fewer households being eligible for SNAP and WIC. These important programs need funding of at least $6.3 billion with no increased work requirements.

Rep. Jason Lewis: Please sign on as a co-sponsor of the Global Food Security Act (HR 5129), which includes international assistance programs that have had bipartisan support for many years. Also please support funding for the SNAP and WIC programs of at least $6.3 billion with no increased work requirements.

Additional phone calls for all:
I support the Earned Income Tax Credit. It is an effective program to help lift working families out of poverty.
I support school meals and summer meals for our school aged children.
